Extradition

Extradition is the process used to return fugitives who flee from one state to another. Article IV, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution states that “a Person charged in any State with Treason, Felony, or other Crime, who shall flee from Justice, shall on Demand of the executive Authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having Jurisdiction of the Crime.” State governors traditionally enforced the return of accused prisoners, but courts fulfill that function today.
